Dental Implants

By the term Implantology in the dental science we mean the axes of titanium placed   in the bone of the upper or lower jaw ” replacing ” the tooth root which for various reasons are no longer present in the oral cavity.  In the early ’60s their installation was launched and then continuous improvements in both technical and installation of construction materials , osseointegration ( the bond of metal to the bone ) is the safest one and today they are the modern method of recovery when we have a loss of one, several or all teeth when there are no contraindications that prevent their implementation.
The implementation is done in the office under local anesthesia ( in special cases in clinic with general anesthesia) , after the incident studied clinically and radiographically . The procedure is not painful and the postoperative course as well. Any discomfort is treated with painkillers. It is needed to elapse a period of 2-4 months to complete the process of ” osseointegration ” in order then to follow the phase of the prosthetic restoration which is the placement of the crown simulating the crown of the tooth. In the meantime of waiting, makeshift prosthetic restorations are placed.
The implants can be placed in adults at any age provided they meet the conditions. Usual contraindications are the big bone loss, poor oral hygiene, smoking, but these are factors that are evaluated by the treating physician.

The advantages of the implants relative to the classical prosthetic method:

  • not grind the adjacent teeth
  • prevent further bone loss in inflammatory (toothless) area
  • contribute to the stability of dentures, or denture placement to avoid if there are no contraindications mounting a sufficient number of implants
  • aesthetic advantages of conventional prosthetic
